Most people are parents at some time during their adult life. It is one of the greatest responsibilities that are of our own making regardless of whether we are fitted for the duty or not.

We are beginning to learn how little we understand the delicate nature of the child, and how much damage we do to the growing personality that, with intelligent preparation, might be better equipped to face the struggle for existence. It is not so much the smoothing of the path for our children that is important, but the strengthening of them, that may smooth the path for themselves.
