HiFunda Secures ~$4M NASA Phase II Sequential SBIR Award to Advance High‑Temperature Materials​

Salt Lake City–based advanced materials company HiFunda LLC has been awarded approximately $4 million through a NASA Phase II Sequential SBIR contract, expanding its work on high‑temperature materials designedfor extreme aerospace environments.​

The new funding builds on HiFunda’s earlier Phase II progress and supports continued development of castable inorganic composite potting materials engineered for high‑temperature electromagnets. Thesematerials aim to improve thermal resilience, reduce cracking, and enhance long‑term durability in propulsionand power‑system components that operate under severe thermal loads.​

NASA’s Sequential Phase II mechanism is reserved for projects that demonstrate strong technicaladvancement and clear potential for infusion into future mission architectures. HiFunda’s selection signals theagency’s confidence in the company’s ability to deliver materials capable of withstanding the extremeconditions encountered in next‑generation aerospace systems.​

The award enables HiFunda to expand prototype development, refine manufacturing processes, and conductadditional testing in NASA‑relevant environments over a multi‑year performance period. Successful maturationcould position the technology for use in high‑temperature electromagnets, thermal‑protection systems, andother mission‑critical hardware.​
